Overview
Inspired by the processes in which Laika puppets are created, this is a work in progress started to experiment with the industry standard of complex puppet fabrication.

INITIAL CONCEPT
CONCEPT
A character inspired by vintage and victorian era styles.
Inspiration
Heavily inspired by the intricate details of Laika stop motion puppets!
PUPPET FABRICATION

Internet digging to figure out what materials were used for different aspects of the puppet from archival footages of the behind the scenes videos released by stop motion studios, from the narrow armature of the puppet to the formulas used to set and design hair pieces.

FABRICATION PROCESS
First steps of using Blender to sculpt a mask for the face.
Dressing the bare bones of armature for flesh and volume + iterations of 3D printing the face mask + eyeballs.
Making patterns of blouse shirt.
Painting the face with pastels (powder-brushing)
Sewing patterns onto real costume fabric (testing out collar design)
Dyeing fabrics for costume pieces and fibers/yarn for hair pieces.
Putting together hair pieces/strands.
